FALABELLA

I've always been curious about Stella McCartney's bags -- and in particular, the materials she uses. As you may know, McCartney is a dedicated vegetarian and does not use leather or fur in any of her designs. While her iconic Falabella bag photographs beautifully, I had questions. What is the quality of this faux leather like? And is it worth its designer price tag?

I was so pleasantly surprised to see my friend Lissy  carry this bag (in the tote version) on her blog recently. It looked beautiful on her, and when I asked about the feel of the faux leather, she said it was super soft and felt more like suede.

The Bag Gods must have been smiling upon me, because the very next day Rue La La had a Stella McCartney sale. Talk about good timing! I jumped on the opportunity and decided to get the Falabella bag in this foldover style, which lets you carry the bag my hand (as I'm doing in these photos), or with a longer chain shoulder strap.

  2. The bag is fantastic! I'm ashamed to say I did not know about Stella's wonderful stance against using leather and fur. It was definitely fate that one went on sale the very next day :)

    1. Total fate, right? To be honest this bag would be heavenly in a soft, thin nappa leather... but the faux is actually very nice and made out of some sort of fabric that still feels luxe.

  11. So how is the leather, now that you have it in person? Does it feel like leather? Is it durable?

    1. It doesn't feel like leather -- more like fabric or thin suede. It seems very durable!
